Yes. Christianity is the only way to peace with God.
Most religions claim to have the exclusive view of the truth. For that matter, anyone who makes a statement about anything being true makes this claim. If something is the truth, then all contradictory ideas about the same thing must be false.
Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Atheism (to name a few) teach very different ideas about who God is, what humans are morally required to do, and what happens after we die. Buddhism, for example, teaches reincarnation until we reach the state of Nirvana. Hinduism believes in many gods, perhaps even millions of gods.
They also teach different things about who Jesus is. Islam, for example, teaches that Jesus was a prophet but only a prophet. Islam explicitly rejects the Christian teaching that Jesus died on the cross and that He rose from the dead. Judaism teaches that either Jesus was a liar in His claim to be God or that He never claimed this but future followers of Jesus made that part of the story up.
All of these religions could be wrong, but they can’t all be right (watch video).
Here are some direct quotes:
- “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).
- “The Son of Man [referring to himself] has the authority to forgive sins” (Matthew 9:-18)
- “The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised” (Luke 9:22)
Like all truth claims, Jesus’ truth claims must be either true or false.
Jesus is the eternal Son of God. The Bible teaches that all things in the world were made by Him and for Him. “For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.” (Colossians 1:16)
Jesus is the only one who died to pay the penalty for our sin. God’s punishment for sin is death. Either we must pay this, or someone must pay it for us. Mohamad did not die for our sins, nor did Joseph Smith or Buddha. Only Jesus gave His life as a sacrifice for our sins. Only Jesus could give His life because He is the only person who ever lived who never sinned.
Jesus is the only one who rose from the dead. All the other religious teachers of the world are dead. Mohamad is dead. Buddha is dead. But Jesus is alive. The Bible teaches that Jesus “was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead” (Romans 1:3). In other words, Jesus proved that all He said and taught was true, especially His claim to be the Son of God and the only way to God.
Our culture says that believing this means you are narrow-minded or arrogant. But we do not think this way about other things in life. If you have a rare disease and your doctor tells you about the one cure for your disease, you would not accuse your doctor of being a bigot. You would say thank you and start your treatment right away. If your mechanic figures out the problem with your car and tells you the way he can fix it, you probably don’t stand there in his shop and lecture him about how there are many paths to fix a car.
In fact, if you heard someone lecturing a doctor about how his treatment plan was not the only way to get better, wouldn’t you think that person was being a little arrogant? Suppose you heard someone standing in the doctor’s waiting room lecturing terminally ill cancer patients that all roads lead to a healthy life, what would you think about that person? We would probably think that person is being arrogant, since they are not a doctor. And we would think their claim to be silly, because we know that not all roads lead to a healthy life and a cure for cancer.
When people say, “All roads lead to God,” perhaps we should ask, “How do you know this? Are you God? Did God tell you this?” If the answer is no, then it’s like they are standing in a doctor’s waiting room practicing medicine without a license. Imagine how that would look to the doctor. And imagine how it must look to God when mere mortals proudly declare that all roads lead to Him.
Jesus is the one who made the way for us to be saved through His death and resurrection. He has shown that we can trust Him through His resurrection. So, we should be humble, not pretend like we have all the answers, and listen to Him.
