WHY CAN'T WE SEE/HEAR GOD?
WHY CAN'T WE
SEE/HEAR GOD?

God has given plenty of evidence for His existence for people who are open to it.

1. GOD IS ACTUALLY NOT AS HIDDEN AS MANY PEOPLE THINK.
  • While it makes sense that God is invisible (He is a Spiritual being after all!), God has given clear indications of his existence.

  • Paul contends that belief in God is obvious through creation (Romans 1:18-23).

    • God’s existence is clearly seen in the universe, our moral intuition, and the appearance of design in life, among other things. See our article:

  • God has provided many miraculous demonstrations of his power.

    • These include constant miracles throughout the Bible, with the most important being Jesus’ Resurrection. See our article: Did Jesus Really Rise from the Dead

    • Outside of the Bible, there is good evidence that God is still doing miraculous works today around the world, such as thousands of reports of supernatural healings each year. We discuss this more in our article Does Being a Christian Mean I Don't Believe in Science?

    • Despite all of these showcases of power, God does not owe anyone a sign on demand, as if he could be commanded to jump through hoops to satisfy our curiosity.

2. GOD COULD MAKE HIMSELF EVEN MORE OBVIOUS, BUT HE DESIRES TO BE SOUGHT OUT.
  • It pleases God when we seek him and trust by faith that he exists (Hebrews 11:6).

  • Jesus taught his disciples to seek his kingdom like treasure-hunters (Matthew 13:44-45).

  • Jesus regularly taught in parables so that only the members of his audience who actually cared enough about God would benefit from the teaching (Matthew 13:11-15). He also refused to do miracles for audiences who were already hostile toward his message (Matthew 13:5816:1-4).

  • Long ago, God promised his people that they would certainly find him if they sought him with all of their heart and soul, even if they had been unfaithful to him prior to that (Deuteronomy 4:29). God’s character is the same today.

3. JESUS IS THE ANSWER FOR OUR NEED TO INTERACT WITH A VISIBLE GOD.
  • Jesus is the image of the invisible God (Colossians 1:15).

  • We will eventually be able to interact with God in a visible way for eternity because of our relationship with Jesus!
